Attack on the Media

During Nixon's second term there was an interest in what would be known as the watergate scandal. There were constant questions about his involvement in the coverup to which he said he had no idea. As the people got closer to finding out that he, in fact, didn't directly commit the crime he did order the coverup which was worse. Nixon's administration attack on the media sparked an awakening of anger that was in conservative people.

Throughout the elections and now that he's president Trump has been attacking the media. He has called the media the true "enemy of the people". Most of his media coverage is about his possible administration connection with Russia and how they could've helped with his election to which he has largely denied. The dislike of certain media channels even made an impact during on of Sean Spicers press briefing after the white house banned some media news outlets from attending.

  1. This post has good insights on the relevance of Nixon's Watergate scandal and Trump's shaming of the media. As the media gets less trusted -- some polls even showed media as less trustworthy than Trump -- what types of problems does this present for the public? Where can they get reliable information?

  2. This is interesting and truly relates to a new question about "fake news." This term has been comically used many times, but is a serious issue, as an increase in attacking legitimate media sources leaves people with a feeling of overall distrust to mainstream media which leads them to possibly less trustworthy sources of information. Indeed, it is these attacks that lead to people seriously believing news such as an abortion clinic in a pizza shop run by Hillary Clinton.

  3. This is a great post on the media. Not only was this a problem for people like the president, but it also started to affect people such as professional athletes, film stars, and of course the Kardashians. Many people, mostly political figures, need to be very weary of the media and it can be seen in the campaign run by Trump. Trump has special media coordinators which monitor his media outlook and give him solutions on how to approach a public matter. Like Javin said, Trump's use of "fake news" has been a term which many have seen as on an attack on news sources which highlight his mistakes. Overall, the topic of news is a very controversial topic, especially when it comes to the presidents of the USA.
