1. He was born into a wealthy family
He was born October 27.1858. His father was successful in his profession of business while his mother came from a less wealthy family. He had 3 other siblings and was the second oldest.
2. Nickname was "teddie"
Theodore Roosevelt was not the biggest fan of the nickname which started off when he was young but remained with him throughout college.
3.He suffered with Asthma
He spent a lot of time by himself indoors because of his asthma attacks which could sometimes me fatal. At the time, the illness was not well understood so the prescriptions and recommendations from doctors were not always the most helpful.
4. He wore glasses at the age of 13
He found himself to have trouble seeing things from a distance so he began to wear glasses at the age of 13.
5.Theadore was physically active
He was in a gymnastics program as well as a weightlifting class to build strength not only in his muscles but in his lungs which helped him cope with asthma.
6. Rough Patch during Civil War
Roosevelt was put in the middle between his mother and father making his life difficult during the Civil War. His mother was from the south along with other relatives while his father supported the union.
7. Homeschooled
Roosevelt spent a lot of his time indoors, including the time he spent learning. Although he did not spend a lot of time with kids his age he traveled a lot to Europe with his family.
8. Marriage within family
Roosevelt's niece, daughter of his brother, married Franklin D Roosevelt who was fifth cousin (distant cousin) to Theodore Roosevelt.

Roosevelt showed quite an interest in Biology and Zoology

Roosevelt graduated at a high rank from Harvard university while challenging himself to take German, history, forensics, and composition. Although he studied a lot it did not stop him from enjoying outdoor activities such as: enjoyed boxing, rowing, and wrestling.
