The American Invasion of Iraq 2001

The American Invasion of Iraq

In early October of 2001, both America and Britain invaded Afghanistan as a response to the recent acts of terrorism in America. Other reasoning given for entering the war included Afghanistan’s countless human rights abuses against its citizens. Nearly twenty percent of the Afghani citizen population had suffered from starvation and the majority lived in complete poverty.  Afghanistan was controlled by the hardline islamic fundamentalist political movement called the Taliban who despite the massive military offensives against them still organize bombings and attacks as recently as April 23, 2017. The purpose of the invasion was also to target the Al Qaeda terrorist group led by Osama Bin Laden.

Northern Alliance Troops
The Taliban are extremely anti-American because of America’s capitalistic success and control over the world economy. France, Germany, Australia, and Canada all provided support logistical support while American and British forces bombed areas of the most concentrated Taliban control. The Northern Alliance or United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan was created as an islamic military front to lead a defensive war against the Taliban. Following the air attacks came a ground offensive led by the Northern Alliance. The attack forced the Taliban to retreat to the national capital of Kabul. Although national control was given back to the Afghani government after the American led invasion, troops from Britain and America were left in Afghanistan to continue to fight the war on terror.

  1. You focus on the Taliban's dislike of completely controlling the world economy painting them as a anarchist group who oppose big government across the globe which they are but they are also a radical religious group who use terror to fight what they see as another crusade.

  2. Great post! I really how you talked about the flaw seen by the Taliban's about America.I find it interesting how you talked bombing done by America and left you hanging on what is to be done next. What other attacks do you think were done by the Taliban's and how many people were injured what is a consequence that happen because of this?
