The World Wide Web:
Invented by Tim Berners Lee in 1990, the World Wide Web was at first considered a way to connect and share information. While Lee's proposal was not initially accepted, the World Wide Web has obviously grown to be a huge part of the word, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
The Webcam:
The webcam was invented at Cambridge University by James Quentin and Paul Jardetsky in 1991. Originally invented to check coffee levels, the webcam has been instrumental in the development of recent technology.
Java:
Java, the most popular programming language today, was invented in 1995. As an object-oriented, class-based language, Java came with new features that made it a lot easier to code for programmers, especially when compared to the other popular languages, like C and C++.
Google:
What started out as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brinn at Stanford turned into the renowned Google. Highlighted by the concept of page-ranking, Google amazed many experts, and revolutionized search engines.
Launched in 1998, the iMac instantly became one of the most popular desktop computers in the world. Its unique design and appealing looks helped its initial popularity, and it really helped boost Apple as a company.
Very interesting blog post about technology of the 1990s Rijul its really interesting how you show the humble beginnings of the computer and how it has become a large part of our society today. Were there any new inventions of better phones during this time, because cellphones began to get popular during this time. How did laptops do during this time, or where they not popular?
ReplyDeleteGreat Post! You rsubject actually connects very heavily to the history of our hometown. Sillicon Valley is built from technology. Without the technological boom, our town would not be one of the most advanced communities in the world. Before the economic success of technology, Sillicon Valley was cheap farmland similar to central California. Soon however, it became a technological hub that brought in immense capital, allowing for extreme remodeling of the community. You can learn more here:
