While Al Gore is often remembered as the democratic candidate for the presidency who lost of George W. Bush in 2000, this American politician is certainly an under-acknowledged one in the public eye. As a successful vice president to Bill Clinton during the 1990's and an influential environmentalist during the 2000's. Gore's accomplishments outside of his time running for the presidency cannot be overlooked and are certainly things that need to be made more widely known among the citizens of the United States. During Bill Clinton's magnificently successful presidential campaign where he won against George H.W. Bush in 1992, Al Gore was a hugely valuable running mate at Clinton's side during the election. Initially hesitant to accept the position of vice president, Gore decided to take the offer after realizing that he felt a moral obligation to challenge the Bush administration's less environment-focused policies, and he made significant improvements to environmental protection during his time as vice president. He was also highly experienced in the field of foreign policy and kept track of foreign relations while Clinton focused on his domestic plans to revive the middle class, giving the president much-needed aid during a very task-dense time period for American politics. Gore was also an experienced politician due to his previous time as both a Congressman and a Senator of Tennessee, allowing him to be more effective in taking up more serious tasks when Clinton required it.
After his run for the presidency, Gore continued to do good work as a prominent environmentalist. Contributing greatly to the acceleration of movements against global warming and the deforestation of the United States, Gore became a committed writer and a proud advocate of a greener nation. His work even won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, a major accomplishment which few realize that Gore achieved. Today, he continues his advocacy of environmental protection and support for the EPA and was even praised by President Obama for "advancing the cause of peace."

I find it interesting that a candidate focused on environmentalism had such a relatively successful career. While researching, I found that his father, Al Gore Sr. was the chairman of Island Creek Coal Co. in Lexington, Kentucky. The company practiced strip mining, which was later opposed by Al Gore Jr. in his political career. He has also come under some criticism lately for selling his TV network to Al-Jazeera, which is connected with not so environmentally businesses.

Very well made post. It very interesting how with his loss for the presidency, he did not give up and continued growing his political career its interesting how it he got to where he is. I like how you explained how close he was to the presidency and how important his position in the white house was, helping out president Clinton. Why do you think he didn't run for the presidency again? He also had alot of work on awareness to global warming.

Great post. Environmentalism with problems such as global warming proves as a very difficult subject in American politics. A key factor in the environmental decisions made in this country happens with the powerful practice of lobbying. Lobbying is an extremely controversial subject where some see it as a violation of democracy where the "rich few" manipulate the views of the representatives of the common people. My personal opinion is that there should be more regulations on lobbying because it goes against the core values of the country on how the people should be represented in government and should hold the power.

I wonder whether Gore is more respected for his political career or what he was done for the world in terms of environmentalism.
