The Great Depression isolated the US from other countries. When the Gold Standard was reintroduced, it proved to not be able to cope with economic shocks. There was not only crisis in the US, however, during the Great Depression years, Germany was in economic struggle and France and Britain had financial difficulties. The US and Britain both dropped from the gold standard after being unable to keep up with the financial expectations of it. There was a meeting held called the London Economic Conference where different nations met to resolve the economic crisis, but no resolutions were made.
Imperialism:
Imperial incidents were occurring around the world from Japan, Germany, and Italy, World War 2 was starting to emerge, but the US did not act on behalf of it. Isolationism benefitted the US's relationships with Latin American countries by retrieving their troops from them. Roosevelt and Hoover focused on the economic crisis back home.
Fascism:
In Germany, Japan, and Italy, military regime took over as government. These military regimes pushed their country's borders without much opposition at the time. As World War 2 accelerated, America was forced to join the fight against fascism. The US's entrance to World War 2 actually helped get them out of their recession after many industrial jobs were created. World War 2 helped name America as a world leader.
