The first of these gay pride parades, was on October 14, 1979 where around 100,000 protested for gay rights in America. Many years passed and nothing changed for gay rights for gay around America, however the real change in rights for gay citizens was on 2008 when the Californian Supreme court called the law that was placed against gay marriage in California unconstitutional according to the US constitution. However another bill to ban same sex marriage in California was passed which caused a lot of protests which ended up in the US supreme court. But everything changed when Obama became president, a man who supported gay rights throughout his first term helped to bring rights to the gay community but he was not able to make gay marriage legally until his second term where he was finally able give homosexuals the rights they deserved. This topic is very important for us to learn about because of our current vice president and his position on gay marriage. He is very anti-gay and the rights of homosexuals may change because of our new president.

I was unaware of the first time a gay pride parade took place and there have been many obstacles that everyone involved had to face. What Obama did was give people the right to marry the person they love regardless of gender and as you put is something that the current administration is against.
