Phyllis Schlafy

Known for her conservative social and political views, Phyllis Schlafy was a famous American constitutional lawyer and activist. Throughout her career, she continuously voiced her strong opposition towards feminism and abortions.

Schlafy ran campaigns against equal rights in the United States and wanted to channel her activism and political works toward a more conservative nation. She ran for Congress as a Republican, but lost due to her low budget campaign. This pushed her to further pursue success with her political activism – she began to attend the National Republic Convention year after year, allowing her to reach a position in which she could endorse other politicians' actions. During Nixon's presidency, Schlafy helped lead numerous revolts as a strong opponent to the Equal Rights Amendments.

Her political activism stemming from conservative roots, Phyllis Schlafy's campaigns against Communism, abortion and the Equal Rights Amendment galvanized conservatives for almost two generations and reshaped American politic – the "first lady" of a political march to the right.

  1. Interesting post! Did you know that Schlafly actually endorsed Donald Trump during the 2016 election? Her last book, published one day after her death, was called "The Conservative Case for Trump." Interesting that the people we associate with the past are still impacting today.
